What is the ELTiS Exam?
The ELTiS (English Language Test for International Students) is a standardized English proficiency test developed by CSIET in 2013 to replace the former SLEP exam. The test ensures that international exchange students can adapt to English-speaking high schools, understanding both everyday language and classroom content. Most high schools accept ELTiS scores as proof of English proficiency for exchange applicants.
Eligibility & Administration
- Open to students in grades 9–12 (ages 15–18).
- Registration is handled exclusively through authorized agencies, which coordinate test dates and locations.
- The ELTiS is fully online—there is no paper-based option.
Test Content & Structure
- All questions are multiple-choice. The test covers both listening and reading skills.
- Listening Section (~30 minutes):
- 24 questions in five parts:
- Teacher instructions
- Mathematical terminology
- Short conversations
- Long classroom dialogues
- Academic lecture comprehension

- 26 questions in three parts:
- Vocabulary
- Grammar

Scoring & Requirements
- Total score varies by version; most versions max at 265+.
- Many high schools require a minimum ELTiS score of 200 for exchange students.
